Leer la etiqueta y confirmar la orden médica antes de administrar.

Se deben seguir las seis derechos de la medicación: paciente, fármaco, dosis, vía, tiempo y registro.

Si el paciente está dormido, se puede administrar la medicación sin confirmar la identidad.

Se puede ajustar la dosis basándose en la intuición del personal, sin consultar la orden.

Una ampolla o frasco abierto puede usarse para varios pacientes si no hay sustituto.

Después de administrar, se debe registrar la dosis y observar y reportar efectos adversos.

La vía de administración debe ser la indicada en la orden y coincidir con la formulación disponible.

Antes de administrar, se debe verificar alergias del paciente y contraindicaciones.

Se deben mezclar medicamentos de diferentes vías en la misma jeringa para ahorrar tiempo.
