In a quiet forest , a clever hare about speed , while a patient tortoise moved calmly along . One day they challenged each other to a race . The other animals gathered to watch . At the start , the hare dashed ahead , but he grew tired and stopped to , certain he would win easily . Meanwhile the tortoise kept a pace , passing the sleeping hare and reaching the line first . The crowd celebrated a simple lesson : perseverance beats arrogance .

Two stood on the fence , each proud and loud . At dawn , they each other to a contest of might and courage . One with bright feathers , the other sang a bold , clear shriek . The farmer smiled and watched as corn spilled from a sack when they flapped . A gust carried the feed away , and both birds panicked for a moment .
