About this activity

This activity is a fun and interactive memory game designed for primary school students to practice the Past Simple tense. Learners work on recognizing and recalling past tense verbs through a matching card game.
Students are given a set of cards with actions written in the Past Simple (e.g., played football, watched TV). The cards are placed face down, and students take turns flipping over two cards at a time to find matching pairs.
When a student finds a matching pair, they keep the cards and say the sentence aloud (e.g., “I played football”). If the cards do not match, they turn them back over. The game continues until all pairs are found.
This activity promotes memory, speaking, and reading skills while reinforcing the use of Past Simple verbs in a playful and engaging way.
