The History and Evolution of Video Games
Today , video games are a multi - billion dollar industry that connects millions of people around the world . ( 1 ) they were not always this popular . In the 1950s , scientists created the first electronic games , but they were very simple . For example , a game called Tennis for Two was ( 2 ) in 1958 , but only a few people could play it in a laboratory .

Everything changed in the 1970s . A company named Atari launched a game called Pong . It was a virtual tennis game ( 3 ) became incredibly successful in arcade rooms . During this decade , children and teenagers started to ( 4 ) their free time and money playing these machines . ( 5 ) the graphics were only white lines on a black screen , people loved the experience .

In the 1980s , Nintendo introduced the Nintendo Entertainment System ( NES ) and a character that transformed the industry forever : Mario . This period is known as the " Golden Age " ( 6 ) video games . Developers began to create more complex stories , and games became a social activity at home .
