Los son herramientas que permiten al lector determinar la estructura y sentido de los textos , ya que indican las pausas y el modo de la entonación del habla . Estos poseen una gran función porque su correcto uso permite comprender de forma coherente el contenido de un texto .

En el español existen los siguientes : el punto , , , los dos puntos , los puntos suspensivos , y de exclamación , entre otros .

La , es la encargada de marcar una pausa breve en un enunciado ; , es el que tiene la función de marcar una pausa final ; , representan una pausa mayor que la coma pero menor que la del punto ; , están formados por tres puntos en línea y sin espacio entre ellos y se emplean al suponer un interrupción en la oración o en un final impreciso y marca el principio y el fin de una pregunta formulada de manera directa .
