So you think you know everything about the natural catastrophes? Let's see if you can fill this crossword!

1

This catastrophe is a shaking of the ground caused by the sudden breaking and movement of large sections (tectonic plates) of the earth's rocky outermost crust.

2

This disaster is an uncontrolled fire that wipes out large fields and areas of land. It is typically fires that started out of a lightning strike, or people carelessly starting it, or accidentally, or even arson, that went un-noticed and got out of hand. These fires sometimes burn for days and weeks. They can wipe out an entire forest and destroy almost every organic matter in it.

3

These natural disasters can be triggered by earthquakes, volcanic activity, changes in groundwater, a disturbance or change of slope. Intense rainfall over a short period of time tends to trigger shallow, fast-moving mud and debris flows.

4

These natural disasters are violent storms that strike as a powerful rotating mixture of wind and thunderstorm clouds, extending from the clouds to the ground in a funnel shape. They are known to be the most powerful and destructive atmospheric generated wind systems.

5

This phenomenon is a series of large waves of extremely long wavelength and period usually generated by a violent, impulsive undersea disturbance or activity near the coast or in the ocean. When a sudden displacement of a large volume of water occurs, or if the sea floor is suddenly raised or dropped by an earthquake, big waves can be formed. The waves travel out of the area of origin and can be extremely dangerous and damaging when they reach the shore.

6

This natural disaster occurs when a piece of land that is usually dry land, suddenly gets submerged under water. Some of these can occur suddenly and recede quickly. Others take days or even months to build and discharge.
