Is er tegenstrijdige informatie aanwezig, spreken de bronnen elkaar tegen?

Is er grondig onderzoek gedaan? Is het verhaal gebaseerd op maar één bron? Zijn de bronnen betrouwbaar, eerlijk en objectief? Worden alle kanten van het verhaal belicht of maar één gezichtspunt?

Komen de feiten overeen met die in andere artikelen of berichten? Spreken bronnen elkaar tegen?

Komt het nieuwsbericht van een persoon of organisatie die betrouwbaar en gezaghebbend is?

Is de informatie recent genoeg om betrouwbaar te zijn? Journalisten zijn ook maar mensen en maken dus fouten. Door een verkeerd gespeld woord, een verkeerd geplaatste komma of een grammaticafout kan de betekenis van een zin veranderen. Soms zijn niet alle feiten genoeg gecheckt.
