Le streghe si alzarono e cominciarono a raccogliere le loro cose . Le osservavo attraverso una fessura , sperando che se ne andassero in fretta , così sarei stato al sicuro .
- Aspettate un momento ! - gridò all'improvviso una strega nell'ultima fila . - Mi è appena arrivata una puzzolente ! C'è odore di cacca di cane in questa stanza ! Dev'esserci un bambino nascosto qui !
I mi si drizzarono in testa come di un porcospino e cominciai a sudare .
- Trofatelo , qvel mucchietto di spazzatura ! - strideva la voce della Strega Suprema . - Non fatelo scapparre ! Bisogna eliminarlo !
- Non ho - pensai . Anche se potessi schizzar via ed evitarle , non uscirei mai dalla stanza , perché le porte sono sbarrate e bloccate dalla catena . Ero in trappola ! Alzai gli occhi : un viso di strega mi sovrastava trionfante .
- E' qui , dietro il paravento ! , venite !
La strega allungò una mano guantata e mi acciuffò per i capelli , ma mi liberai con uno . Quasi a volo feci il giro della sala e nessuna di loro riuscì ad acchiapparmi .
Disperato , cercai di aprire la porta , ma con quella catena non c'era niente da fare .
Le streghe si disposero secondo gli ordini , avanzando verso di me , tra le sedie vuote . E' la fine !
- Aiuto ! - gridai , , con la speranza che qualcuno , in corridoio , potesse sentirmi .
- Aiuto , , aiuto !
D'un tratto mi furono addosso , e in cinque mi afferrarono per le braccia e per le gambe , sollevandomi . Io continuavo ad , ma una di loro mi tappò energicamente la bocca con la mano guantata .
