O tabaco representa uma das principais causas de doença e de morte em todo o mundo . Em Portugal , o consumo de tabaco é por 10 , 6% das mortes , tendo , só em 2016 , morrido mais de 11 . 800 pessoas por doenças ao tabaco , o que significa uma morte a cada 50 minutos .

" São vidas perdidas para as famílias , para as crianças , mas também para a economia dos países " , disse Kristina Mauer - Stender , defendendo que é preciso realizar ações para informar as populações sobre os do tabaco , fazer com que os fumadores o vício e impedir que os jovens comecem a fumar .

O governante destacou os " avanços significativos " feitos por Portugal nesta área , apontando o acesso às consultas de tabágica . " Nos últimos anos aumentámos em mais de 40% os locais [ onde se pode ter consultas para deixar de fumar ] , o que proporcionou que o número de consultas crescesse de forma exponencial " , sublinhou .

No ano passado , também foi reintroduzida a compartição dos medicamentos , disse , sublinhando que " o preço era um fator limitativo no acesso a esses " .
