We know that two of the messages are false and one is true. We consider cases based on which message is true.

Hints

Explanation Correct answer: Chest We know that two of the messages are false and one is true. We consider cases based on which message is true. If message A is true, then A does not contain the treasure. This means either B or C contains the treasure. Checking each case: If B contains the treasure then message C is also true which contradicts the statement that only one message is true. If C contains the treasure, then message B is also true which again contradicts that only one message is true. It follows that message ? must be false.

If message C is true, then the gold is in chest B, and so message A is true and message B is false. This contradicts the statement that only one message is true.

If message B is true then B does not contain the treasure. If A contains the treasure then message A is false and message C is also false. This is consistent with exactly two of the messages being false so we can conclude that message B is true, and more importantly that chest ? contains the treasure.
