Many verbs have irregular past simple forms . There are no specific rules , but you can divide them in groups to remember them more easily .

Group 4 : past forms with only 1 different letter
The past forms of all these verbs are very similar to their present forms , but we have to change , add or eliminate 1 letter :
1 . a : become = became / come = came / begin = began / drink = drank / forgive = forgave / give = gave / run = ran
2 . ew : blow = blew / draw = drew / grow = grew / know = knew
3 . o_e : choose = chose / drive = drove / ride = rode / rise = rose / write = wrote
4 . other letters : fall = fell / forget = forgot / get = got / hang = hung / make = made
