Welcome to the Mexico City Tour . We are now in the Zócalo square . As you can , now it is a large space with a in the center , but it always like that . In Aztec times , a palace here . Later , gardens , monuments , and markets . Something interesting about the Zócalo is that this word means " pedestal " . In the 1800's a pedestal was set up in the square for a monument . The monument was never put there , and began to refer to the square itself as the Zócalo . Now in many towns in Mexico the main square is called the Zócalo .
We are now going along Reforma Avenue with its important buildings like the stock market building and the Independence Monument . Now you can see the Torre Mayor skyscraper . In the there was a famous movie theater here . Note the way the avenue is decorated . The are roses here now , but in December there were poinsettia along the avenue , just as there always are at Christmas time . years , there was a very successful bench exhibition here on the avenue . There were benches and people really enjoyed sitting on them and taking photographs . Now ?
