According to some surveys , the ability to make small talk is important for social and success . Chatting about topics like the weather or weekends helps you connect with people , and that can be the key to making friends or business contacts . You don't have to be outgoing to make small talk . Just follow these easy .

1 . SMILE and say " Hello " when you meet someone new . Say your name and shake . Try to repeat the person's name : " Nice to meet you , Mariana . "
2 . MAKE a comment about your surroundings - for example , the ( " It's really cold today . " ) or the event ( " There are a lot of people here . " ) .
