Who were the main military leaders, political leaders, monarchs and pacifists during the WWI?

by Javier Ramón Núñez
1

French political leader who served two terms as the nation’s prime minister.

Pistas

He trained as a physician and worked in the United States during the 1860s.

On his return to France he joined the left wing Radical Party, entered local government in Paris and eventually took up a seat in the national legislature.

When the French government fell in 1906, he became prime minister, a position he occupied for three years.

Known for his strong speeches and barely restrained anger, he was dubbed ‘the Tiger’ by many pundits.

He became prime minister again in November 1917 and immediately set about intensifying the French war effort.

He is perhaps best known for his actions at the Paris peace conferences in 1919, where he demanded a punitive treaty that would dismember or cripple Germany forever.
