Denomina-se condensador ao conjunto formado por duas superfícies metálicas condutoras - armaduras, que se encontram separadas por um meio isolante – dielétrico. Um condensador tem a capacidade de manter a tensão (durante um tempo finito) aos seus terminais mesmo depois de ser retirada a tensão que originou a sua carga (fonte). O condensador também pode estar em carga e descarga.
