Introduction to Procedure Text

Procedure text is a text that contains ways, goals for making or doing something with the right step by step sequentially so as to produce a goal that is wanted.

Purpose and Function

Purpose is to give readers a sequence of actions. It aims for accuracy, clarity, and ease of following the steps.


Function of Procedure Text

- To get the best results efficiently.

- To avoid accidents, damage, unnecessary waste.

Structure

A well-structured procedure has these parts:

  • Title of the task
  • Goal (what you will achieve)
  • Materials list
  • Steps (numbered)
  • Tips or safety notes

Language Features

Use the present simple and imperative verbs. Keep sentences short and direct. Use numbers to order steps.

Imperative Verbs

Common imperatives for procedures include:

  • Wash the hands
  • Measure ingredients
  • Pour into the container
  • Stir well
  • Check for safety

Use sequence connectors to show order.

How to make a cup of tea

  1. Fill a kettle with water and boil it.
  2. Place a tea bag in a cup.
