The present continuous describes actions happening now or around now. It uses am/is/are + verb-ing.

Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing. Examples: I am studying; She is reading; They are sleeping.

Use for actions occurring at this moment or around now, especially with indicators like now or currently.

Describe temporary actions or situations, not permanent habits. He is staying with a friend this week.

Present continuous can express planned future arrangements. We are meeting them tomorrow afternoon.

Spelling Rules

For verbs ending in e, drop the e and add ing: make → making. For a single syllable with consonant-vowel-consonant, double the final consonant: run → running.

Form negatives with am not / is not ≠ aren’t + verb-ing. Examples: I am not listening; They aren’t reading.
