Bandung Bondowoso, a powerful warrior, aids Prabu Boko in battle after Boko’s king is killed. His strength catches the eye of Roro Jonggrang.

Roro Jonggrang's Dilemma

Roro Jonggrang agrees to marry Bandung Bondowoso but sets two impossible conditions to test his worth and resolve.

The First Condition

Bandung must build two wells in a single night. He completes the task with supernatural assistance and diligence.

The Second Condition

Bandung must construct a thousand temples in one night, a feat powered by spirits and magic.

The Temples Take Shape

The spirits labor tirelessly, and 999 temples rise before dawn, signaling near completion of the grand temple.

Rising Dawn Trickery

Roro Jonggrang orders the maids to create a fake dawn by lighting fires and pounding rice to fool the spirits.

Mistakenly believing sunrise has arrived, the spirits flee, leaving the final temple unfinished and Bandung enraged.
