Activity Description: Reading Comprehension – My Cousin’s Big House
Objective:
Students will practice reading comprehension in English using a short text. They will learn and reinforce vocabulary related to the house (upstairs, downstairs, cellar) and numbers between 20 and 100.
Instructions for students:
Read the text “My Cousin’s Big House” carefully.
After reading, answer the questions in complete sentences.
Use information from the text to write your answers (don’t invent).
Skills practiced:
Reading comprehension.
Vocabulary: house parts (upstairs, downstairs, cellar).
Numbers: 20, 50, 90.
Writing short answers in English.
Expected answers:
Students should be able to locate and copy or reformulate the answers from the text (e.g., “The house has three floors”).
Level:
Primary school – around 8 years old.
Extension idea (optional):
After answering, students can draw Emily’s house with three floors, label upstairs, downstairs, cellar, and write the numbers (20 chairs, 50 books, 90 years old) to connect reading with visual learning.
