Cause and Effect (C&E) Paragraph; Descriptive

A Cause and Effect Paragraph is a type of paragraph that explains the relationship between an event (cause) and what happens as a result (effect).


Meanwhile, a Descriptive Paragraph is a paragraph that describes something in detail and vividly so that the reader can imagine the situation, object, or event being told.


So when combined:

Cause and Effect (C&E) Descriptive Paragraph = a paragraph that explains cause and effect while describing the situation in a detailed and lively way.

Purpose of This Paragraph

The purposes are to:

Explain why something happens (cause)

Show what happens as a result (effect)

Describe the situation or change so the reader can feel and understand it clearly

General Structure of the Paragraph

Part Content Explanation

1. Topic Sentence Main idea Mentions the topic and general cause-effect relationship

2. Supporting Sentences Details Explain the specific causes and effects with descriptive details (color, mood, feeling, time, etc.)

3. Concluding Sentence Closing Summarizes or gives a final reflection

You can write it in two ways:

1. Cause 'n Effect (Cause first, then result)

Example: Because it rained heavily all night, the streets were flooded and many vehicles broke down.

2. Effect 'n Cause (Result first, then reason)

Example: The streets were flooded and cars couldn't pass because of the heavy rain last night.

Descriptive Features in a C&E Paragraph

To make your paragraph descriptive, add:

Adjectives to describe the situation or condition.

Examples: dark, crowded, silent, beautiful, peaceful, smoky, noisy, etc.

Sensory words to help readers "feel" the situation.

Examples: the smell of rain, the sound of thunder, the warmth of sunlight, etc.

Time/place details to make the scene more realistic.

Examples: in the morning, near the river, during the storm, etc.

Title: The Effect of Heavy Rain on My Neighborhood


Paragraph:

Last night, a heavy rain poured for almost six hours without stopping. The sound of thunder echoed through the dark sky, and the streets slowly turned into small rivers. Because the drainage system in our neighborhood is poor, the water quickly rose and entered many houses. People rushed to move their furniture and electrical devices to higher places. As a result, the whole area looked chaotic and muddy in the morning. The heavy rain not only caused damage but also brought a gloomy and uncomfortable atmosphere to everyone living there.

Analysis:

Cause: heavy rain and poor drainage

Effect: flooding and chaotic environment

Descriptive part: vivid imagery (sound of thunder, dark sky, muddy area, chaotic morning)
