Overview

Purpose: Connect your Windows PC to a wireless router for internet access. We’ll cover setup, security, and basic troubleshooting.

Preparation

Ensure your router is powered on, connected to the modem, and broadcasting a wireless network. Have the default SSID and password handy.

Open Network Settings

On Windows, open Settings > Network & Internet. Choose Wi‑Fi to view available networks.

Choose Your Network

From the list, select your router’s SSID. If you don’t see it, make sure the router is broadcasting and retry.

Connect to Network

Click Connect and enter the router’s Wi‑Fi password when prompted. Press Next to continue.

Connection Status

Windows will show Connected with a green check. You can test with a web page to confirm access.

Network Profile

Choose Private profile for trusted networks to enable network discovery and printer sharing.

Router Admin Access

Open a browser and enter router IP (commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1). Log in with the default credentials.

Security Settings

Enable WPA2/WPA3 security, set a strong passphrase, and disable WPS if possible for safety.

Troubleshooting

If no network appears, restart the router and PC, verify airwaves are enabled, and update drivers.
