What is Literature?

Literature is the art of using words to express ideas, emotions, and stories.

It helps us explore different worlds and understand people’s thoughts and feelings.

Types of Literature

There are two main types of literature:

  1. Fiction: made-up stories created by imagination.
  • Examples: novels, short stories, fables, fairy tales.
  1. Nonfiction: tells facts or real events.
  • Examples: biographies, essays, news articles.

Elements of Fiction

Every story has important parts called elements of fiction:

  • Characters: the people, animals, or beings in a story.
  • Setting: where and when the story happens.
  • Plot: the sequence of events.
  • Conflict: the problem or challenge the characters face.
  • Theme: the message or lesson of the story.

Characters

  • Main character (Protagonist): the most important one in the story.
  • Antagonist: the character who opposes or causes conflict.
  • Supporting characters: help move the story forward.
