Introducción

El Teorema de Pitágoras dice que en un triángulo rectángulo, la suma de los cuadrados de los catetos es igual al cuadrado de la hipotenusa. Es c² = a² + b².

La fórmula

En un triángulo rectángulo, c es la hipotenusa y a, b son los catetos. Así: c² = a² + b².

Ejemplo 1

Si a = 3 y b = 4, entonces c² = 3² + 4² = 9 + 16 = 25, y c = 5.

Con a = 5 y c = 13, encuentra b usando b² = c² − a² y resuelve: b = 12.

Aplicaciones

El teorema se usa en construcción, diseño de rampas, y en navegación para distancias entre puntos y edificios.

Calcula c si a = 6 y b = 8. Aplica c² = a² + b² y obtén c = 10.
