O esqueleto do corpo humano é a estrutura que fornece suporte, proteção e permite o movimento do organismo. No adulto, é composto por 206 ossos interligados por articulações e cartilagens. 

Funções Principais

  • Sustentação: Forma a estrutura rígida que sustenta o corpo e define sua forma.
  • Proteção: Protege órgãos vitais e delicados. Por exemplo, o crânio protege o cérebro, e a caixa torácica protege o coração e os pulmões.
  • Movimento: Serve como ponto de fixação para os músculos. A ação conjunta de ossos, músculos e articulações permite a locomoção e outros movimentos.
  • Produção de Células Sanguíneas: A medula óssea, encontrada no interior de alguns ossos, é responsável pela produção de células sanguíneas (hematopoiese).
  • Reserva Mineral: Armazena minerais essenciais, como o cálcio.

Divisões do Esqueleto

O esqueleto humano é dividido em duas partes principais: 

  • Esqueleto Axial: Forma o eixo central do corpo e inclui os ossos da cabeça (crânio), pescoço (vértebras cervicais) e tronco (costelas, esterno e coluna vertebral).
  • Esqueleto Apendicular: Compreende os ossos dos membros superiores e inferiores, além das cinturas escapular (ombros) e pélvica (bacia), que os conectam ao esqueleto axial.
