Slide 1: What is the Present Simple?

The present simple tense is used for habits, facts, and routines. Learn how to form it with subjects and base verbs.

Slide 2: Subject Pronouns

Subject pronouns determine the verb form: I, you, we, they take base verbs; he, she, it adds -s or -es.

Positive form: I walk to school. He walks to school. We walk to school. The base verb is used most of the time.

Negative form: Use do not (don't) or does not (doesn't) with base verbs. Examples: I do not play guitar. She does not play guitar.

Question form: Do you like pizza? Does he like pizza? In questions, auxiliary do/does comes before the subject.

Adverbs of frequency: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never. Place them after the auxiliary or the main verb in present simple.

Spelling tip: for he/she/it, add s or es to the base verb. If it ends with -y, change to -ies (study → studies).
