Teoría

El plural de los sustantivos en inglés se forma, al igual que en español, añadiendo simplemente una “s” al final de la palabra. Esta regla se aplica a la mayoría de los sustantivos y es la forma más común de formar el plural.


Por ejemplo:

  • boy → boys | niño → niños
  • pen → pens | pluma → plumas
  • room → rooms | habitación → habitaciones
  • pencil → pencils | lápiz → lápices


Como se puede observar, la palabra no cambia, solo se agrega la “s” al final para indicar que se trata de más de un objeto. Esta regla sencilla hace que la formación del plural en inglés sea muy fácil de aprender.


Por supuesto, también existen excepciones, como por ejemplo en las palabras que terminan en “y” (city → cities). Estas excepciones las aprenderemos más adelante en Helicoinglés.
