What are Comparatives?

In English, comparatives compare two things. They show which one is bigger, faster, or nicer. We use them every day.

Forming with Short Adjectives

For short, one-syllable adjectives, add -er: tall → taller, fast → faster. If the word ends with a single vowel and consonant, double the last letter, for example big = bigger

Adjectives Ending in -y

Adjectives ending with -y: change y to i and add -er. sunny → sunnier; funny → funnier.

Using More

For longer adjectives, use "more" for example beautiful → more beautiful; interesting → more interesting. We also use more with many-syllable words.
