"The world we live in"


Esta unidad se usa para hablar de problemas globales y ambientales, sus causas y consecuencias, así como también soluciones y acciones.


Vocabulary:


  • Pollution, global warming, overpopulation
  • Deforestation, endangered species
  • Waste, fumes, chemicals, resources
  • Conservation, recycling, wildlife

Grammar 1 - Passive with prepositions

Present continuous passive


  • El presente pasivo continuo describe una acción que está sucediendo al momento.


  • Su estructura es la siguiente:


Subject + is/are being + past participle


Examples.

  1. Too many trees are being cut down right now.
  2. That blue car is being cleaned by the lady.


Present perfect passive


  • El presente pasivo perfecto describe una acción que ha empezado antes del momento presente (el tiempo exacto no es relevante).


  • Su estructura es la siguiente:


Subject + has/have been + past participle


Examples.

  1. Too many trees have been cut down recently in the last few years.
  2. The dog has been lost by Monday.


Nota: antes de la causa podemos usar los conectores by, because of, due to, through, and as a result of (todas con el mismo significado).

Grammar 2- Infinite clauses and phrases

Infinitive clauses and phrases


  • Las cláusulas en infinito y frases infinitivas se forman con la combinación de dos verbos en infinitivo, y se utiliza para hablar de soluciones.


  • Su estructura es la siguiente:


A way / Two ways + infinitive + is/are + infinitive


Examples.

  1. One way to change things is to talk to the company.
  2. Another way to stop them is to get a TV station to run a story.
  3. The best ways to fight cancer are to do more research and educate people.

  • Complete unit 7 (student book and workbook).


  • Practice for taking quiz units 6 and 7.


  • Choose one of the following phrases and make a reflection of it:


  1. “Small actions can create big changes.”
  2. “The world changes when we choose to care.”
  3. “Protecting the Earth begins with simple choices.”
  4. “We don’t inherit the Earth; we borrow it from the next generation.”
  5. “A better world starts with you.”
