Interrogative FORM

1

What are interrogatives?

Interrogatives are question forms in English.

They help us ask about actions, conditions, and facts.

2

Inversion rule

In questions, place the auxiliary before the subject:

  • Do they like vegetables?
  • Is it raining today?
3

I / you / we / they

Use do with I, you, we, and they:

  • Do you like banana?
  • Do they play tennis?
4

He / she / it

Use does with he, she, and it:

  • Does she like reading?
  • Does he study every day?

IMPORTANT --> Remove the -s from the main verb.

5

Be for present continuous

Use am / is / are plus verb + -ing:

  • Is she reading?
  • Are they studying?
6

Question words

Ask with question words:

  • What do you like?
  • Where is he going?
  • Why are they late?
7

Short answers

Respond briefly:

  • Yes, I do.
  • No, she doesn’t.
8

Common mistakes

Using -s to the base verb after do / does:

Does she likes banana? --> Does she like banana?

Using Do instead of Does:

Do she like apples? --> Does she like apples?

9

Tips for practice

  • Use correct punctuation
  • Practice intonation rising at the end of questions
