Decimal to percentage conversion explains how a decimal becomes a percent. This skill helps you compare proportions and understand data better.

The Basic Rule

To convert, multiply the decimal by 100 and add the percent sign. For example, 0.75 × 100 = 75%, not 0.75%.

Convert 0.75 to a percentage: 0.75 × 100 = 75%. So, 0.75 equals 75 percent.

Example 2

Convert 0.4 to a percentage: 0.4 × 100 = 40%. Remember the symbol is percent, not the decimal.

Quick Rule

When moving the decimal two places to the right, you get the percent value. This is equivalent to multiplying by 100.

Fraction to Percent

Converting a fraction like 3/4 to percent: first convert to decimal (0.75), then multiply by 100 to get 75%.
