One parent is all I need, No mating, fast population speed. Clones are common when I succeed, But diversity is what I lack indeed.

2

I’m a reproductive cell, haploid and small, Half the chromosomes—that’s all. Egg or sperm, I play my part, Life begins when I take part.

3

I’m the single cell formed at the start, Diploid chromosomes set me apart. Mitosis will soon guide my way, From one to many, day by day.

4

Some animals switch their roles in life, Male or female—no need for strife. Eggs and sperm from one body may come, But mating still must be done.

5

Eggs and sperm are cast away, Into water where tides hold sway. Timing is key, numbers are large, Chance and currents lead the charge.

6

My life flips between two modes, Sexual, asexual—different roads. Jellyfish show me quite well, Two body forms where I dwell.

7

Inside the mother, eggs remain, But yolk alone feeds life’s gain. No placenta lends a hand, Hatching comes close—just as planned.

8

I change slowly, step by step, My young resemble me except— No wings, no maturity in sight, Until molts bring adult might.

9

I connect mother and embryo tight, Sharing oxygen, nutrients, waste in flight. Only placental mammals use me, A lifeline growing quietly.

10

I’m a waterproof home for growing life, Protection from drying and outside strife. Four membranes help embryos thrive, Key to land life staying alive.
