The Wonders of Mount Bromo


Mount Bromo is one of the most famous active volcanoes in Indonesia. Located in East Java, it stands at 2,329 meters tall. While it is not the highest mountain in Indonesia, it is incredibly popular among local and international tourists because of its stunning natural beauty and unique landscape.


Most visitors begin their journey very early in the morning, around 3:00 AM. They rent classic jeeps to travel up to Mount Penanjakan, the best viewpoint to watch the sunrise. As the sun comes up, the sky turns beautiful shades of orange, pink, and purple, revealing the majestic view of Mount Bromo surrounded by a massive "Sea of Sand."


After the sunrise, tourists usually drive down into the Sea of Sand. From there, they can either walk or rent a horse to reach the base of Mount Bromo. To see the smoking crater, visitors must climb 253 concrete steps. The local Tenggerese people consider the mountain sacred and hold an annual festival called Yadnya Kasada, where they throw offerings like fruit, rice, and livestock into the crater to ask for blessings.
