Slide 1: What are halves and quarters?

Half means dividing something into two equal parts. A quarter divides something into four equal parts. Both show simple, visual ways to compare portions.

Think of a circle as a pizza. If you cut it into two equal slices, you have two halves.

Shade one of the two halves. 1/2 of the pizza is shaded, showing the fraction clearly.

A quarter is one of four equal parts. When four equal parts are made, each is 1/4.
