Slide 1 — Welcome

**Welcome to TOEIC Preparation**.

This course introduces the test, its purpose, structure, and practical tips to start your study journey with confidence.

Slide 2 — What is TOEIC?

The TOEIC assesses everyday English in workplaces. It measures listening and reading skills, with a total of 200 questions across two sections.


TOEIC test questions are based on real-life work settings in an international environment (meetings, travel, telephone conversations, etc).

Slide 3 — Test Structure

The test has two parts:

Listening (100 questions)

Reading (100 questions)

You will have 2:00 hours to complete the test.

Slide 4 — Listening Part Overview

Listening comprises four question types:

  1. Photo (6 items)
  2. Question-Response (25 items)
  3. Short Conversation (39 items/13 conversations)
  4. Short Talk (30 items/10 talks)

Slide 5 — Listening: Photo Sample

Example: A photo shows people in a meeting.

Question: ‘What is the man doing?’

Tip: Listen for actions and context words.

Slide 6 — Listening: Question-Response

In this part you will only have the answer sheet, but nothing written. You will hear a question or statement followed by 3 possible answers


Example: ‘When does the meeting start?’

Answer choices relate to time, schedules, or arrangements.

Slide 7 — Listening: Short Conversation

This part includes 3 questions per conversation. You need attention and be careful to get general ideas as well as details.


Example: A dialogue about travel plans. Question: ‘Where will they go?’ Listen for travel cues and destinations.

Slide 8 — Listening: Short Talk

Example: A business announcement. Question: ‘What will the speaker do next?’ Focus on sequence and future actions.

Slide 9 — Reading Part Overview

Reading also has 100 questions

It tests:

  1. Vocabulary
  2. Grammar
  3. Reading Comprehension

You will have freedom to move in this part. Yet being aware of time is a key to success

Scores

What about scores?

The TOEIC Reading and Listening gives a score between 10 and 990:

  • 905 - 990 International Proficiency
  • 785 – 900 Working Proficiency Plus
  • 605 – 780 Limited Working Proficiency
  • 405 – 600 Elementary Proficiency Plus
  • 255 – 400 Elementary Proficiency
  • 185 – 250 Memorised Proficiency
  • 10 – 180 No Useful Proficiency
