Slide 1: What is Addition

Addition is combining two or more numbers to find the total. It answers the question, “How many in all?”

Use the plus sign (+) to join numbers. Example: 3 + 4 = 7.

Important properties: Commutative (a + b = b + a) and Associative (a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c).

When sums exceed 9, carry to the next place value. Example: 27 + 46 = 73.
