I mark the arrival of warmth when the sun lights a hole above a nomad’s home, signaling winter’s end. A nation gathers, songs and horsemen ride, and a special drink of seven parts is shared. Names change with the year, but I am celebrated by all in a burst of renewal. What am I?

It is the most important celebration in Kazakh calendar, linked to Kadyr-Ata’s blessing and widespread public holidays.

A dish served during me is made from seven ingredients, reflecting seven days or virtues.
