Slide 1: What is the Past Simple?

The past simple describes actions that happened and finished in the past. It is used for completed moments or regular past actions.

2

Slide 2: Regular Verbs

For most verbs, add -ed to form the past: walkwalked, talktalked.

3

Slide 3: Irregular Verbs

Some verbs change completely in the past: go → went, have → had, see → saw.

4

Slide 4: Negative Form

Use did not or didn’t with the base form: I did not walk, She didn’t sing.

5

Slide 5: Question Form

Form questions with Did + subject + base verb: Did you walk? Did he study?.

6

Slide 6: Time Expressions

Common time markers: yesterday, last week, in 2010, a year ago.

7

Slide 7: Positive Example

She visited her grandmother yesterday. The action is completed in the past with a clear time reference.

8

Slide 8: Negative Example

They did not finish the project last night. Note the base verb after did.

9

Slide 9: Quick Practice

Make past simple forms: I (play) soccer yesterday — I played soccer yesterday.

10
