Miscommunication scene 1: Hotel Check-in

Student A (Guest):

  • You are checking in at a hotel.
  • You are tired and a bit confused.
  • You are not sure about the room number and breakfast time.
  • Your goal: confirm all the details before you leave reception.

Student B (Receptionist):

  • You work at the hotel.
  • You give this information a bit quickly:
  • Room: 428 (but say it quickly so it sounds like 438)
  • Breakfast: starts at 8:30
  • Then add: Wi-Fi password.
  • Answer Student A’s questions

Miscommunication scene 2: Train Station

Student A (Passenger):

  • You are at a busy train station.
  • You can’t hear clearly.
  • You need to know:
  • Platform number
  • Departure time
  • Your goal: get the correct information.

Student B (Station Employee):

  • You give information quickly and only once at first:
  • Platform: 14
  • Time: 15:50
  • There is “noise” (other students talking).
  • Only repeat if Student A asks.
