A SHORT STORY TEACHING GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES

Slide 1 — The Morning Plan

Lena woke up smiling, loving reading and sketching before breakfast. She decided to go to the park with her notebook and pencils.

Slide 2 — First Clue

At the door, Lena hesitated. She enjoyed listening to birds, but she chose to walk slowly so she could observe animals without rushing.

Slide 3 — A Helpful Note

A sign read: “To arrive on time, start to leave early.” Lena remembered that some decisions use to + verb (infinitive) to show purpose.

Slide 4 — The Park Bench

On the bench, Lena kept practicing her handwriting and drawing flowers. She liked to keep her sketches neat and bright.

Slide 5 — A Helpful Friend

A friend asked, “Do you enjoy to write or writing more?” Lena replied that she loved to write stories and also writing about them.

A hot air balloon rose, and Lena felt free to explore. She enjoyed reading maps and imagining adventures.

Her bag held markers for to color scenes and glue for collages. She balanced to take everything with care and focus.

As the sun set, Lena realized that some verbs prefer to + verb (infinitive) to show purpose, while others use -ing (gerunds) as subjects or objects.

Slide 9 — The Return Home

Walking home, she thought about what she had learned: reading, sketching, and to write stories can all be meaningful activities.

Slide 10 — The Finished Tale

Back home, Lena finished drawing her day and decided to share her tale with friends, explaining when to use -ing and to + verb.
