Soy la cantidad que mide el área bajo una curva entre a y b. Añado segmentos del eje, y la suma de sus valores da mi valor total. Si multiplico la función por una constante, mi valor también multiplica por esa constante. Y si cambio el orden de los límites, mi signo se invierte.

Una constante puede salir fuera de la integral y cambiar el orden de los límites invierte el signo

La idea de dividir [a,b] en partes y sumar sus contribuciones reconstruye el total.
