The Dead Sea, Jordan/Israel

The Dead Sea is one of the strangest places on Earth. It is saltier than any other lake in the world. In fact, the water is so salty that no fish can live there — that's why it's called «dead». But here is the coolest thing: you can float on the water without swimming! The water is denser than the ocean, so your body just stays on top.

Lake Hillier, Australia

This lake is pink. Yes, bright pink! It is stranger than most lakes because of its color. Scientists say the color comes from algae and bacteria. The weirdest part? The water is not toxic. You can swim in it, but tourists are not allowed to visit the lake often.

Kawah Ijen, Indonesia

This volcano does not erupt red lava. It erupts blue lava. The bluer than usual flames come from burning sulfur. At night, the volcano looks more beautiful than any fire. However, the air is more toxic than in most places, so you need a gas mask.

The Atacama Desert, Chile

The Atacama is the driest desert in the world. Some places there have never had rain — not even one drop! It is drier than the Sahara Desert. NASA even tests Mars rovers here because the ground looks more like Mars than Earth.

This is the largest cave in the world. It is bigger than any other cave on Earth. You could fit a 40-story skyscraper inside it! The cave even has its own jungle and river. It is more impressive than people imagine.

Blood Falls, Antarctica

In Antarctica, there is a waterfall that looks like blood. The water is bright red. It is weirder than any normal waterfall. The red color comes from iron — the same thing that makes rust red. The water is saltier than the ocean and has been trapped under ice for over a million years.

The Door to Hell, Turkmenistan

In the middle of a desert, there is a giant hole that has been on fire for over 50 years. It is called the «Door to Hell». Scientists lit it on fire in 1971 to stop poisonous gas from spreading. They thought it would burn for a few weeks. It is still burning today. It is stranger than any campfire you have ever seen.
