What is an Action Verb?

An action verb tells us what a person, animal, or thing is doing.

If you can do it with your body or your mind, it’s an action verb!

2

Physical Actions (Actions we can see)

Action verbs help us move our bodies!

Examples:

  • Run: "The boy runs fast."
  • Jump: "The frogs jump into the water."
  • Eat: "I eat a yummy snack."
  • Dance: "We dance to the music."

3

Mental Actions (Actions in our heads)

Sometimes actions happen inside our minds!

Examples:

  1. Think: "I think of a great idea."
  2. Dream: "The baby dreams of stars."
  3. Guess: "She guesses the right answer."
  4. Learn: "We learn new things every day."

Everything in the world can do an action!

  2. Blow: "The wind blows the leaves."
  3. Flow: "The river flows to the sea."
