Definition:

  • Narrative is a text that tells a story to entertain the audience
  • One type of text that tells a series of events in a chronological or interconnected manner and is imaginative, meaning not real.


Purpose: to entertain the audience or readers.

Elements: characters, plot.

Structure:

  • Orientation
  • Complication
  • Resolution

Structure of Narrative Text

1. Orientation

  • Introduction of characters, place, and time
  • (Who, where, when)

2. Complication

  • The problem begins
  • Develops into conflict and climax
  • Leads to solution

3. Resolution

  • The ending of the story
  • Problem is solved
  • Can be happy or sad ending

Narrative Text (Language Features)

1. Simple Past Tense

  • Example: went, saw, said

2. Action Verbs

  • Example: ran, opened, killed

4. Time Conjunctions

  • Example: then, after, before

5. Adjectives: Describe characters

  • Example: beautiful, poor

6. Nouns: Name of people, places, things

  • Example: the king, the girl
