Organic compounds are carbon-based substances, often containing hydrogen and other elements like oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, or halogens. They form the basis of organic chemistry and life.

Slide 2: Hydrocarbons Overview

Hydrocarbons are organic compounds consisting only of carbon and hydrogen. They are the simplest organics and include alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes.

Slide 3: Alkanes – Saturated Chains

Alkanes have only single bonds, are saturated, and follow the general formula CnH2n+2. They are relatively unreactive compared to other organics.

Alkenes contain at least one carbon–carbon double bond, making them unsaturated and more reactive than alkanes. General formula: CnH2n.
