AI has proven to be useful for humanity in several ways. However, some of the ways in which it is tapped into may be controversial. A recent trend among kids, teenagers and even grown-ups is the use of AI for companionship. Nowadays, different platforms are being used to create AI friends and romantic partners.


What's your take on this? Can AI really meet people's emotional needs?

FOR AI Companions

Having an AI partner comes along with several upsides such as :


• Provides support for lonely or isolated people

• Available 24/7, never judges or gets tired

• Can help people practice social skills

• Useful for elderly people without family nearby

• No risk of human conflicts or misunderstandings

• Can be customized to individual needs

AGAINST AI Companions

Some people warn about the problems of using AI as companions. Several psychologists for instance, argue that people's need for human connection won't be satisfied. Some common concerns are:


• Relationships with AI aren't genuine or meaningful

• May reduce motivation to form real human connections

• Creates unhealthy dependence on technology

• Cannot provide real empathy or emotional depth

• Privacy concerns about personal conversations

• Could worsen social skills in the long run
