Slide 1: Forming Questions

How do we form present simple questions? We use auxiliary verbs do or does at the beginning, followed by the subject and the base verb.

2

Slide 2: Do and Does

Use do with I, you, we, they and does with he, she, it. For example: Do you like pizza? Does she play tennis?

Slide 3: Word Order

The typical order is: Do/Does + subject + base verb + ? Example: Do you work on weekends?

4

Slide 4: Short Answers

Short answers recycle the auxiliary: Yes, I do. No, she doesn’t. Follow with yes/no and repetition of the auxiliary.

5

Slide 5: Time Expressions

Time words like often, always, never, every day appear after the subject or at the end of the sentence: Do you always eat breakfast?

6

Slide 6: Negative Form

To negate, use do not / does not before the base verb: Do you not like carrots? or Don’t you like carrots?

7

Slide 7: Common Verbs

Most regular verbs add -s for does questions: Do they walk to school? Does he play guitar?

8
