1. ¿Qué es singular y plural?

En inglés, un sustantivo puede estar en singular (uno) o en plural (más de uno). Identificar estas formas facilita la gramática y la comunicación diaria.

2. Regla base: añadir -s

La mayoría de sustantivos forman el plural añadiendo -s: book → books, chair → chairs, student → students. Practica con palabras simples.

3. Finales -s, -x, -z, -sh, -ch

Para estos son habituales -es: bus → buses, box → boxes, wish → wishes, match → matches, dish → dishes.

4. Regla -y tras consonante y tras vocal

Si una palabra termina en -y y hay consonante antes, cambia a -ies: city → cities. Si hay vocal antes, sólo añade -s: boy → boys.

5. Sustantivos irregulares

Algunos sustantivos cambian irregularmente: man → men, woman → women, child → children, foot → feet, mouse → mice.

6. Sustantivos que no cambian

Algunos nombres no cambian en plural: sheep, fish, species, series. Se usan igual en singular y plural.

7. Artículos con sustantivos singulares

Usa 'a' o 'an' con singular: a book, an apple. En plural se usa 'some' o se omite el artículo.

8. Contar con números

Para contar, usa el plural: two books, several chairs. Cuando es incontable, no se cuenta individualmente.

9. Práctica rápida

Elige la forma correcta: (a) one dog or two dogs; (b) one wish or two wishes; (c) a city or cities.

10. Resumen de reglas clave

Regla base: añade -s. Finales especiales: -es. Regla -y tras consonante: -ies. Irregulares y palabras invariables. Artículos en singular.
