Aunque el foco esté en primarios y secundarios, conviene mencionar los terciarios. Estos surgen al mezclar un primario con un secundario adyacente, como azul verdoso o rojo anaranjado.

Son los que aportan riqueza y matices a una paleta sin perder coherencia. La mayoría de diseños profesionales se apoyan mucho más en terciarios que en colores puros.
