In TIA Portal, the first step is to create a new project and configure the PLC hardware. The programmer must add the CPU and define the communication settings.

Next, the user creates PLC tags and assigns addresses to each device. For example, a start push button can be assigned to input I0.0 and a conveyor motor to output Q0.0.

The control logic is created in Ladder Diagram (LAD). The programmer inserts normally open contacts, coils, timers, and counters to control the process.
