What Is Recount Text

What is Recount Text?

A recount text is a text that tells past experiences or events.

Purpose:

To retell events that happened in the past.

Example:

Last Sunday, I watched a football match with my friends.

Generic Structure of Recount Text

1. Orientation

Introduces the event.

2. Events

Tells the sequence of events.

3. Reorientation

Shows the writer's feeling or conclusion.

Example:

  • Orientation: Last Saturday, I watched a football match.
  • Events: The players competed very well.
  • Reorientation: I was very happy.

Recount texts usually use:

Simple Past Tense (V2)

  • watched
  • played
  • won
  • cheered
  • enjoyed etc.

Time Connectors

  • first
  • then
  • after that
  • finally etc

Formula Of Simple Past Tense

Subject + Verb 2 + Object

Examples:

  • I watched a football match.
  • They played basketball.
  • She visited the stadium.
